Chris and members! I spoke to a good buddy of mine about the club and its members. He enjoys fishing when he can and is honestly a great guy. If you guys need any auto mechanical stuff done he is definately the man to see. He's located in Oshawa (south of Bloor St. on Wilson) and is willing to give all of our members 20% off if you mention that your a member of the club/ or mention my name. Lets be honest we all need a good mechanic and I can personally vouch for his services. He's the type of guy that tells it to you straight, Doesn't replace what doesn't need replacing and does an excellent job. His Name is Jimmy and the place is J&P Auto. the address is below J&P Auto 712 Wilson Rd. S. #18 Oshawa, Ont (905) 404-0009

Hey everyone: After the discussion at the March meeting about certifying tow vehicles and boat trailers, I have enquired to the MTO about the ruling. The answer that I received was that all vehicles towing any kind of trailer that has a combined weight of 4500 kg or more (that also includes fishing boats and trailers and all associated gear, full gas tank etc) must be certified annually. It is a $250.00 fine for the tow vehicle and $250.00 for the trailer plus $250.00 for each infraction found on either. Another newer law that will affect us is the tow and safety chain must be a closed hook as the standard S-hooks that most of us have will result in a $250.00 fine for each hook. I recently visited Jimmy at J&P Auto for my certification, Jimmy is offering our club members a discount on the certification stickers as well as a discount on his labour rate for this and all work done for our vehicles. I had my truck and trailer certified and although I needed new ball joints for the front of the truck it was still under the $500.00 that my fine would have been. Also since I had not changed my S-hooks for my chains and the safety chain as well as 2 other things I would have been fined $1750.00 if I would have been stopped by the MTO. This may be another government money grab but I saved at least $1250.00 so I am very happy. J&P Auto's contact info can be found on our business page, give Jimmy a call and have peace of mind for the upcoming fishing season. Make sure that you have your 2012 club memberdhip card. | |
