Hi Guys.
Wow, Downtown Bass Anglers Club meeting schedule started off with a bang. We had a great guest speaker and passionate discussion that added up to a great meeting overall.
Downtown Bass Anglers Club to like to welcome new member John Smith who joined Monday night. John, welcome to the club.
This month’s guest speaker was Dave Johnson. Despite having just had an operation on his foot, Dave gave an insightful talk on the perfect practice highlighting four key items that help Dave prepare for his day on the lake. Incidentally, here’s the website that Dave talked about http://www.sailflow.com . Great Job Dave and Thanks on behalf of the club. Next month meeting on February 9th, 2009 is shaping up to be a great one as well. John McDonald will be in to do a general question and answer type talk. Here’s John’s profile taken from the CPAA site, http://www.fishcpaa.com/member_profile.cfm?id=28 , Wow he’s done a lot. John is a fantastic multi species fisherman. So have all your questions ready. Don’t forget we have Mike & Mary Nabulsi of Bass Magnet coming March 9th, 2009.
Downtown Bass Club has been working with Shimano and Gagnons to put together a sale for our club. The event will be held on the 3rd of February at 6:30pm to 8pm. There will be pizza and other goodies as well. Shimano has offered to give us a tourney jacket for any purchase over $500. We are also working with Gagnons to give us a break on the price as well. It looks like, as of this moment, all items will be tax free. It’s a great reason to get out. Make sure to support the sponsors that support us and I hope to see you there.
So The First Annual Bucky Invitational Ice Fishing Day will be held this Sunday 18th of January. The location will be Lake Scugog. Buck has got us the use of the Goreski's Rec Hall for the day. Please meet at the gate at 7am, and Buck will let you in. The event runs to 12pm. We’ll be supplying coffee and donuts but bring food if you plan to stay out late. It’s a fun event but we will be doing a big fish prize so bring a tape measure to measure your fish. Remember, this is a fun event, no points towards 2009 Angler of the year. The species available in the area are walleye, crappie, and perch. Hope to see everyone out for that event. Here’s a link for the directions.

DTB Basstalk Update. Looks like Basstalk has updated their website, http://www.basstalk.ca . Keep visiting their site for updates. February 7th, 2009 is the date. It’s being held at the Iroquois. Members will be given a discount, 20% off, for the entrance fee. I had an opportunity to attend the event last year in Uxbridge and it was well worth the money. I will keep you up to date as we get more information. Remember, these are in-depth discussions on very specific topics. It’s also interesting to note, that a talk I attended last year, all five presenters all hit on a specific detail during their presentations. That small detail alone was the price of admission. The current line-up is Dave Chong, Mark Kulik, Pete Garnier, Simon Frost & JP DeRose plus one other yet to be announced. It’s gearing up to be a great day and what’s better than talking about bass fishing in February.
Monday night we announced our 2009 Tournament Schedule. Although it generated much discussion, in the end, it looks to be another great set of events. I for one am looking forward to Scugog and Limerick again this year.
The 2008 Downtown Bass Anglers Club presented the Angler of the Year award to none other than Jay Martin. This is Jay’s second time winning this award. Congratulations Jay!
We also announce a few appointments for the New Year. Bill Clarke has offered to take over the role of Tournament Director and Bob Hoy has agreed to help him. Also, Chris Tieber, our President has passed the ball over to myself. Chris has done an exceptional job as our President. He’s helped make our club what it is today. I’ve got big shoes to fill. Thanks Chris!
Guys, if you’ve got any questions or comments about the upcoming events and/or our meeting, please let me know. I’ll keep you up to date as things change. In the meantime, get out to the boat show http://www.torontoboatshow.com and dream about fishing this season.
Tight Lines,
Mark.
